All leadership positions within student group executive committees must be decided annually by democratic election, meaning all members get the opportunity to both run for a position and vote. Therefore, all exec positions must be opened up to be elected, including your President, Secretary and Treasurer.
There is no limit on how much time a person can spend as part executive committee, but they must be re-elected annually into their positions - they are not automatically given the option to continue the role into the next academic year. This means that before the end of the academic year, your group will need to hold an election for that position where current executive committee members are allowed to run, but any other interested members of the group must also be allowed to run.
Re-Open Nominations (often referred to as RON) will also be a candidate in all student group elections and this option should be advertised alongside the other candidates for all elections, whether in-person or online. Should RON receive the most votes, that position will re-open for nominations and its election will start over again.
Only student members of your group are eligible to vote and run in an election for student group exec positions; this means that they must have active membership to your group on the SU's website. Elections for our Associations run a slightly differently: running and voting in their presidential elections are open to the full student body, rather than limited to members of the group.
If your group has any non-student members you need to make sure that they do not run, or participate, in the vote.
Non-student members may be eligible to stand for non-exec committee positions, but these non-exec positions must hold no voting rights at Executive Committee meetings under any circumstances.
