In rare and exceptional circumstances, groups may be given permission by the SU staff team to select committee members for certain positions if they can demonstrate specific technical skills / knowledge / experience needed by that position. For groups selecting positions, strong rationale must be provided as to why the role requires a specific type of candidate to be in the role and why such experience cannot be gained through learning, training or support (e.g. saying the secretary role requires someone organised is not a strong enough rationale to select for the position).
If your group has not been given permission to select roles, then they must all be democratically elected.
If you’re unsure whether your group has permission to select any of your exec roles, or you would like to request permission to select positions, then please get in touch with the ASK Team (remember to include your rationale if applying to select roles).
