Where Can We Sell Tickets For Our Events?

We have three approved methods of ticket sales which are detailed below.

REMEMBER
No matter where you sell tickets, you will still have VAT taken from your sales. See How Does VAT Affect Our Group? for more info.

SU WEBSITE

You can sell tickets on the SU website through the dashboard feature:

Pros

  • The SU website has small transaction fees of 1.1% + 10p per checkout.
  • You may already have access to this feature as the student group exec should have access to the dashboard. If you don't, you will need to follow the article How To Gain Access To The SU Dashboard For Your Group
  • You can limit who can purchase specific tickets for those with and without memberships to your group.
  • You can add questionnaires to your tickets to gather attendee preferences such as dietary requirements.
  • All sales are paid twice a month regardless of the event date: for payments made between the start and middle of a month, and then for payments made between the middle and end of a month. (Don't forget it can then take a couple of weeks to show on your statement).

Cons

  • The Student Group must pay the transaction fees, they cannot be passed onto the buyer. These are deducted from your student group funds at the end of every month for all of the previous month's transactions.
  • Questionnaire responses are not able to be viewed by student group exec and a request for the data must be submitted to the ASK Team.

NATIVE.FM

The SU's ticketing partner, native.fm, provides great functionality for ticket sales and is the only other approved ticket seller for SU group events.

Pros

  • The booking fee can either be absorbed by the group or passed on to the buyer.
  • You can limit who can purchase specific tickets for those with and without memberships to your group.
  • You can add questionnaires to your tickets to gather attendee preferences such as dietary requirements AND view the responses yourself.
  • You can set up tickets that are only available if another ticket has been purchased e.g. deposit tickets, up-lift tickets.
  • You can set up promo codes to reduce a number of ticket prices for your events.
  • You can send out communications easily to everyone who has purchased tickets for an event when you need to update them about something.
  • You can add offline sales for those purchasing tickets in person at a scheduled sales drop in or on the door.
  • There is a free scanner app to scan attendee's tickets as they enter. It also shows you who did and did not attend.
  • You can type questions using the pink ? in the bottom right of their website to get comprehensive guides (including videos) on how to use the system.

Cons

  • The booking fee is larger than the transaction fee of the SU platform. (50p for tickets £0.01 - £10, 5% for tickets £10.01 - £50, 3.5% for tickets £50.01 - £100, 2.5% for tickets £100.01 and above)
  • You will not necessarily already have access to Native.fm and will need to request that from the SU here(This usually happens within a day or two of the request!)
  • Native pays out after the event date - normally 3 to 5 working days. Don't forget it can then take a couple of weeks to show on your statement. (However, as we can see projected sales from your native account, we can take your expected income into account when making payments for your group!)

IN PERSON

You could also sell tickets to your event in person. The SU is going cashless, and so, we have Square card readers available for SU student group use. If you wanted to sell tickets in person, arrange some time where you will be available in the SU for drop in ticket sales (say 1 hour, 2 hours) and promote this to your group. Then borrow an SU card reader to take payments for tickets in person! (This is also a great way to sell stash!)
