Members cannot run jointly for multiple independent positions - each position must be elected separately.
Members may run jointly for the same exec position (in order to share the responsibilities of the role in the end) if your student group constitution states that the role can be shared. This means you will need to check your constitution before confirming if members can run together. If you don’t have a copy of your constitution, then please get in touch with us.
If it is listed in your constitution, the pair must be made aware that they are working together in one role as one person, and therefore, they are also one sole vote. If they were to be elected, in GMs and such, they will need to agree between themselves on how to vote on things; they will not have a vote each.
If it is not currently included in your constitution but you would like members to be able to run together, then this would be classed as a constitution change, so you may need to postpone the election in order to follow the guidance on “How To Make Changes to Your Student Group’s Constitution”.
The ASK Team do advise that some positions are best not to be shared (the treasurer role is one example as, if there are 2 people processing finances, it’s more difficult to track all of the expenditure of the group). Therefore, if you are considering amending your constitution to allow joint positions or considering letting candidates run jointly, you might want to think about whether the position will actually work being shared or not.
