What To Include in the Treasurer's Report at an AGM

At its core, the treasurer’s report is simply a statement of receipts and expenditures. One of the most important reasons this report is prepared and presented is for transparency to the group members. It’s vital that all interested parties understand the current financial state of the student group – it includes data about the account balance and expenses. Annual reports will focus on the long term: By looking back at the income, expenses, and net balance, decisions can be made about the group’s priorities for the coming year.

With the above in mind, your report will need to include:

  • The starting and end balance of the student group funds.
  • The budget planned for past the year and how the overall income, expenditure and fundraising of this year compares to budget.
  • Income gained from group activity, sponsorship, donorship and any other means.
  • Expenditure for student group activity / events, equipment, admin (web hosting, subscriptions etc.) and any other means.
  • Fundraising and donations made by the group to registered UK charities.
  • Budget plan for next year
